West Texans, already known for their generosity, extended that generosity to support children battling cancer and other life-threatening illnesses.
A recent two-day event – a West Texas-themed banquet at the Bush Convention Center followed by a Sporting Clay tournament at Jake’s Clays — raised $840,000. The funds will directly benefit Sky High For Kids initiatives and its pledges with St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Texas Children’s Hospital and Covenant Children’s Hospital, among others.
Sky High for Kids is a non-profit organization founded by Brittany Hebert Franklin to support children undergoing treatment for cancer and other life-threatening conditions. The organization’s efforts benefit leading hospitals and research centers in closing the gap in childhood cancer rates globally. Franklin served as the auctioneer during the silent auction at the dinner. Since 2007, the organization has donated more than $25 million to leading children’s hospitals and research centers.
According to the American Cancer Society, about 9,910 children in the United States under the age of 15 will be diagnosed with cancer in 2023.
