Childhood Cancer Warriors: Jasmine & Jamie
As told by their father, Jaime
In February 2021, our world was turned upside down when Jaime, just shy of his third birthday, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). It began with what seemed like everyday symptoms—fatigue, a slight fever, and bruising that didn’t make sense. But after numerous tests and an anxious hospital visit, we learned the devastating news: Jaime had cancer.
Jaime’s treatment journey was long and difficult, filled with countless hospital stays, chemotherapy sessions, and tests. Through it all, Jaime showed incredible courage. He faced discomfort and pain with a smile, often choosing to play his favorite games, Roblox and Geometry Dash, even on the hardest days. His strength and spirit never wavered, even when his body felt weak.
In the midst of Jaime’s battle, our family faced another heartbreak. In 2020, just a few months before Jaime’s diagnosis, his older sister, Jasmine, had been diagnosed with medulloblastoma—a type of brain cancer. Sadly, after fighting bravely for three years, Jasmine passed away in May 2023. Her courage and light continue to be an inspiration to all of us, especially Jaime.
Despite the challenges, June 2023 brought a ray of hope—Jaime completed his final round of treatment in Jun of 2023 and is now in remission. He’s been cancer-free since then, bringing joy and hope back into our home. While we continue to navigate life without his sister, Jaime’s resilience and strength remind us of the importance of every moment.
Today, Jaime is a thriving 6-year-old who loves video games, dinosaurs, and adventures with his family. He dreams of a future where other kids like him have more opportunities to beat cancer and live healthy, full lives. Sky High Kids is a crucial part of that vision, helping kids like Jaime and honoring the bravery of all those touched by pediatric cancer.
