Brittany Franklin has had a heart for children since she herself was a child. At age 16, the then pageant queen from Abbeville, Louisiana, traveled to Memphis, Tennessee, as part of her pageant duties to visit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and present a $5,000 check. While walking the floors of the hospital and greeting the young cancer patients, Franklin stumbled onto a chance encounter that would forever change her life and its trajectory — as out of one of the rooms walked Marlo Thomas herself, the celebrity daughter of the hospital’s founder, Danny Thomas.
