CANCER WARRIOR SPOTLIGHT: Sebastian’s story in the words of his mother.

It was Memorial weekend of 2022 when Sebas was on vacation with his dad. I asked for a picture of him and when I saw the picture, he did not have his rosy cheeks and he looked pale. We worried that he might be anemic, so we took him to the pediatrician to look at his took his vitals. The doctors told us to take the test results to the ER at Texas Children’s Hospital (TCH). Sebas was diagnosed with Cancer on June 7, 2022, when he was just seven years old. His testing confirmed he had Leukemia.
The diagnosis changed him forever, he embraced the news with courage, always remembering that he was going to beat it. He asked us not to treat him any differently and reminded us every night with “it is time for my pills.” He took responsibility. We sat in the infusion room and talked about how others were in pain as well. TCH staff always made him feel comfortable and helped him through almost 28 months of treatment.
During our stays at the hospital, I explained to him that food was expensive and that the choices weren’t comforting. He always shared his food at school and would never eat something in front of someone who was not eating the same. That’s how we started talking about providing meals for cancer patients after his recovery.

On September 16, 2025, Sebas rang the bell and his new journey begun! His dream came true! When I read a post from Brittany, the CEO of Sky High for kids about a program they had just launched called Sunday Supper, we reached out to them. Now we are part of their dream and our dream combined. As Sebas says, “I hope you enjoy my mom’s cooking as I do.” Making meals with love is our mantra!
We want to thank Sebas and his mom for continuously contributing their time to our Sunday Suppers. They have served over 2,000 meals with Sky High For Kids.
