Childhood Cancer Warrior Spotlight: PenelEpe aka “Penny”

In the words of her father

On September 8th of 2025, Penny was taken to Texas Children’s Hospital West Campus after ongoing stomach pains and constipation that had not  improved after 2 weeks, once an ultrasound was performed they found a foot long tumor that has consumed 90% of her right kidney, that night we were rushed to Texas Children’s Main Campus where the entire week we meet with her oncology team and had a successful surgery where they removed the tumor alongside her right kidney. Several weeks later she was diagnosed with stage 3 high risk Wilms Tumor. There was a small mass located in her right lung which had disappeared once radiation treatment was completed. In the 36 week treatment plan that Penny had to complete for her Wilms tumor, she endured 6 session of Radiation treatments, 64 chemo treatments, 38 days of inpatient visits, 6 blood transfusion and 4 platelets transfusion. Through it all, always having with a smile, making friends with all of her doctors and nurses and rarely ever complaining. On May 29th of 2026, after months of pain, tears, and prayer, she was officially cancer free!
