Childhood Cancer Warrior: Natalie
On Saturday, February 3, 2024, Natalie was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) an aggressive type of blood cancer and on Sunday February 4th she traveled back home to Houston Texas and was admitted to Texas Children’s Hospital where they confirmed the diagnosis. After starting treatment Natalie stayed in the hospital for 5 months and underwent intense chemotherapy with many side effects and complications but Natalie was able ring the bell in June 2024 after 135 days in the hospital. Natalie is now 20 years old, in remission and currently enrolled in a dual college program and is a Junior majoring in Microbiology and Immunology at University of Texas San Antonio getting her bachelor’s in science and will be beginning her master’s in medical laboratory sciences at UT Health San Antonio.
Even though this is something that no one should ever go through, and it hasn’t been easy even while being in remission Natalie has looked at her diagnosis with a positive mindset and thinks of it as “I need to feel the pain, allow God to heal that pain and transform me into someone that he had intended for me to become all along”. We thank you all for your constant support and love.
Sky High first met Natalie during a visit to another family at Texas Children’s Hospital, and it was clear from the moment we met her that she was truly remarkable. The other kids on her floor admired her so much that she earned the affectionate nickname “camp counselor,” thanks to her warm nature and genuine connections with everyone. Natalie inspired each family she encountered during her time at Texas Children’s, instilling positivity and hope in their hearts.
Sky High is thrilled to partner with S1 Technology to provide Natalie with a new laptop, empowering her to excel in her journey at UTSA. We are proud to support Natalie as she continues to shine and inspire others with her strength and resilience.
