Childhood Cancer Warrior: Madelyn
In March of 2023, Madelyn was diagnosed with Stage 4 Rhabdoid tumor of the kidney. For the next 3 1/2 months, St. Jude Research Center in Memphis was her home. After 6 weeks of chemotherapy the team of Oncologists and Surgeons at St. Jude decided that the tumor had reduced in size enough that surgery was the next step. Shortly after, Madelyn underwent surgery to remove the tumor and her kidney along with cancerous lymph nodes in the surrounding area.
Following surgery Madelyn received another 6 weeks of chemotherapy and 13 days of radiation to target remain cancer in her lungs, before finally being able to return home to her brother and sisters in Louisiana. Madelyn is blessed to have a St. Jude affiliate hospital an hour from her home and there she continued chemotherapy treatments until her final treatment in November 2023.
Madelyn made a return visit to St. Jude Memphis in December where she underwent scans and was found to be cancer free or “ no disease detected “. She has slowly been recovering from her grueling treatments and the heartbreaking side effects. She has been regaining her health, strength, appetite, and sass! She will continue to return to St. Jude research center in Memphis every 3 month for scans and we pray she continues to remain cancer free. Madelyn and her family joins Sky High at several events and is a huge Parker McCollum fan. Please keep Madelyn in your thoughts and prayers.
